SELECTING THE PERFECT PIPE

Glass can be a big investment, so take getting a new pipe seriously. We suggest buying in person, which will allow you to touch and test pipes (inhaling air) before you buy, which is impossible online. Patronize local headshops, and comparison shop to see who has the best pieces and the best vibe.

Usually, when you’re browsing in the store, a certain piece will call out to you. Ask to hold it and see how it fits in your hand, and you’ll know instinctively if it feels right. Take a practice inhale so you can test how the air flows through the pipe. Look for any chips or cracks that could cause the piece to break. Examine the bowl and carb for rough edges, which are evidence of drilling. An imported pipe must have the bowl hole and carb drilled into it after arriving in the United States, resulting in powdered glass shards remaining to be inhaled and possibly cause lung damage. Support local glass artists, and ask the store if they carry imported pieces so you’ll know what to avoid.
